Its kind of wierd in a way if you think about it. Aren't the claymore's able to regenerate, even the offensive types albiet slowly, so why do they have all that nasty scaring? I'm curious to see who the oldest claymore is. At the moment i believe its probably Galatea as she was apparently old before she left the organization. Lastly heres another question to tickle your imagination. Why didn't Priscilla eat clare when she awoke? Clare was the only non-claymore there and Priscilla was hungry for guts so why?

I'm not sure about the scars/disfigurements/whatever grossities are under those Claymore shirts, but I do know at least that visible scars elsewhere like Rafaela's are probably reminders of powerful events (Luciela's awakening, in Rafaela's case). Perhaps whatever is done in the abdomen area makes that part of the body naturally disfigured - that way, even if regenerated, it would stay that way, since it's the way their body is naturally shaped now.
Someone on AnimeSuki theorized there being a youma face or head down there. I doubt that, but damn, wouldn't that be creepy to imagine? XD
As for Prissyface and Clare: no one's quite sure yet. All we know is that Clare didn't even seem to appear on Prissy's radar; if she had, I have no doubts that she wouldn't have lasted longer than you can say "unrecognizable splatter of guts and blood." I'm hoping that as the story covers more about Isley and Priscilla, it will be covered eventually why exactly Clare didn't register to her in those first minutes of awakening.

Did you watch ep 12 yet? Clare looks so creepy after she kisses Raki...

Just finished watching it, and you're right, it is damned weird. It's like Clare suddenly has grey lipstick appear on her lips, with crows' feet under her eyes. Still a sweet moment, though.
Overall, seems that the animation in episode 12 has gone back up, though, since the staff know that this and the next are important dramatic and action/gore-packed episodes. Ophelia and her ideas about "fun" in particular are great to watch come to life in animated form. And it's great to hear Shinohara Emi in a new voice role! I still mostly only know her as Sailor Jupiter. ^^;
Anyway, back to animation: episode 11 was just so weird to watch due to the extreme lack of movement and clear skimping on use of their more skilled artists/animators. I can understand the thought process behind that, though - "Hey, finally there's an episode where not much is happening action-wise! We can use this as an excuse to abuse as many still shots with moving mouths as possible so that we can save our budget for other episodes that need it more." Doesn't mean it doesn't still feel weird to see everyone looking semi-off-model and undetailed in almost every shot, just that I understand and support the reasoning behind it.
This means nothing to anyone but me, but the skimping in this ep was like the Claymore equivalent of Utena episode 36. *huge Utenatard* ^^;;;;
Speaking of oddities in episode 11, BTW: were the clear belly button shots that are in that episode also there in the manga? I forget. Because in that episode, we see the belly button area underneath Miria's shirt, and it seems flat and smooth like normal skin. Unless that specific area is not disfigured and the stomach piercing attack somehow missed showing the areas that are (unlikely), this seems to punch a bit of a hole in my disfigured stomach theory. Either that or only Teresa had a disfigurement in that area; perhaps the stomach isn't the only area that youma flesh can be introduced into the body?
And somewhere out there, I hear the sound of catgirls dropping dead. Because everyone knows that when you try to bring real science into anime and manga, a catgirl dies. XD;

Ya Shinohara Emi did an amazing job voicing Ophelia and her crazy battle/bloodlust XD And the increase in animation quality over the previous ep was great XD As for the oddities you pointed out in Ep 11 I noticed that too. It could be artistic license of the part of the tv adapaters, or as you said the youma could be introduced else in the body though the stomach area would make the most sense as its the easiest place to cover in some ways and large enough. Maybe she hid it all on her back

I just looked over the episode 12 thread on AnimeSuki, and I'm honestly surprised with how incredibly nitpicky everyone is about the animation. Sure, Clare looked weird in that last scene; there's no arguing that. But overall, I felt it was still fairly good animation. Most people there are complaining that everyone was looking off-model in this episode, and I didn't get that impression at all except for during the kiss. Mostly it's the original manga readers who are complaining that Ophelia doesn't look "psycho enough," but really, I read and loved those parts of the manga too, and I had no issues whatsoever with how she was animated. Jeebus, ota-people. The staff has a budget, and they're doing a damn good job with what they have. Stupid geeks, never satisfied. Anyway, wheeeee, can't wait to see the return of Ilena/Irene and Ophelia's awakening. :3 And speaking of awakening, BTW: how cool is it that the awakened being that Ophelia slayed was voiced by Chihara "Nagato Yuki" Minoru?

That voice was sexeh as hell! I thought i recognized her! Ophelia's awakening scene will absolutely own if they keep up the consistence of the work they've done thus far. I'm guessing the return of the other won't be until the late teens of the episode cause i'm guessing season 1 will end with the grand battle in the north.

I'm hoping it ends just after the Northern Campaign as well. Most people on AnimeSuki seem to agree that the best possible ending for a 26-episode Claymore series would be Clarice discovering the 17 gravestones and determining that 7 are missing, followed by showing a shot of the silhouettes of the seven ghosts. Roll credits.

More like three to five years later, unfortunately. At the pace the manga moves at (one chapter per month), they wouldn't have enough material to make another season's worth of anime for about that length of time. And by the time that comes around, the popularity of the anime series will have possibly waned, making a second season unlikely to be produced (according to the ratings, Claymore ain't even really the most popular anime in Japan among what's current now; the ratings aren't bad, per se, but not good either). More than likely, the series will just never go beyond a certain point in the manga plotline. Lots of people have pointed out that the same thing happened with the Berserk anime - ended on a cliffhanger, and none of the rest was ever animated after that. And we all know how much people love to point out similarities between Claymore and Berserk. :/ On the positive side, that would mean the ending would be partially an invitation to read the rest of the manga, which will encourage more fans to pick up Yagi Norihiro's original and make him more money.

Episode 13 is out so don't read below if haven't watched it yet I'm loving Ophelia's voice actress more and more! And Irene's was awesome as well! This is probably one of my more favorite episodes thus far in the anime. As far as i can tell nothing was really added to the canon story, and there was only one or two tiny things i didn't like with the animation in a couple places (some of the mouths look wierd at times ). It brings up a question I've been asking myself while reading the manga at this point as well though. Why does Irene have elf ears?

Episode 14 is now out subbed! It follows events up to Ophelia's death in the water (hm, where have I heard that situation before? ), including the conclusion of Clare's training with Irene, Irene's final gift to Clare, the entrance of Raphaela (and exit of Irene), and the battle with awakened Ophelia. The animation quality jumped up yet again (someone on AnimeSuki pointed out that it could be because Madhouse is now finished with Death Note and can probably spend more on Claymore again), and it really shows, especially in Clare and Irene's sparring and in scenes with awakened Ophelia. There were also several nice subtle touches, such as Irene's smile and the dying Ophelia's tears. I also liked that yet more powerful panels from the manga were successfully transitioned into the anime, such as Ophelia's human half being "born" out of her tail, and the view from the back of Ophelia's torso embracing Clare with one arm. I think I almost shed tears for Ophelia at the end. Again. *sniff* Next episode promises more of the great characters (I see Jean, Dauf's shoulder, and RIFULRIFULRIFULOHFUCKINGGODYAYTHANKYOUMADHOUSERIFUL!!!), and the start of explanations about the Abyssals, most likely. FUCK. YEAH.

Oh, and by the way, I came across an incredibly insightful post by Kinematics of the AnimeSuki forums. I noticed that several people on that forum have disliked Ophelia due to the seeming pointlessness of her sadism, and I think this post should probably clear that up for these people. If it doesn't, then they're just being stubborn.

All i'm going to say about Riful right now is she's like the anti-hentai monster! Shes the schoolgirl and the tentacle monster! ~hangs head in shame~ I'm losing a battle with sleep (i.e. can't sleep). For some reason i really came to apperciate, even more so than i did in the manga, Irene. Dunno why but she just was cooler? I'm still wondering about the elf ears some people have and others don't...
And of course Ophelia's insanity was pratically perfectly done. Such a well designed and cast character. I must agree w/ the last sentence of that quote. I will miss the melded childish/sadist Ophelia. It was seamless blended with a good back story and conclusion. I didn't think it was possible but every episode/chapter I read of Claymore the more i come to respect and love it.
On a note about the animation I notice the increase in quality too, and am ridiciously happy at the prospect of MadHouse working on it as a flagship produce now that DeathNote is finished. ~Crosses fingers~
